Highlights From The She-Ra Progressives of Power Panel

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Earlier this evening, the She-Ra Progressive of Power Podcast hosted a wonderfully wholesome panel. Led by Eric Garneau and Lauren Faits, the panel featured guests Noelle Stevenson (Executive Producer), Jen Bennett (Director), Josie Campbell (Story Editor), Phil Lomboy (Editor), M Willis (Writer) and Sharon Sun (Board Artist). The panel was very heartwarming and answered several questions that the fans had about She-Ra.

For those who might of missed the panel, or for those who prefer a written recap, we’ve gone ahead and compiled a short list of the highlights from tonight’s panel.

Angella’s return has always been a hot topic among the fandom, and several were clamoring to know whether the former Queen of Brightmoon’s return was discussed as a possibility in Season 5. As it turns out, Queen Angella might still be out there. Although Crew-Ra ultimately decided to not bring Angella back in the series (Noelle pointed out the importance that the loss had for Glimmer’s story and her character), that doesn’t mean we may never see Angella again. In the hopes of a movie, or any sort of feature in the future, Noelle hinted at a storyline to bring Angella back that she would very much like to do.

Mara’s She-Ra design has been subject to criticism among fans, with several pointing out that by giving her blonde hair and blue eyes, she appears to have been whitewashed. Noelle addressed these concerns during the panel, stating that she had seen the dialogue and that the design was a huge mistake on their part. She recognized the implications of Mara’s design and admitted that she would do it differently now and would learn from this mistake for the future.

During the panel, the Crew-Ra revealed that the finale of Season 5 went through several rewrites and edits. The original ending involved the destruction of Horde Prime’s ship, but was changed per the suggestion of the storyboard artists who suggested that She-Ra should turn Horde Prime’s ship into a tree. The turning of his ship into the tree, and She-Ra healing Etheria with her powerful magic set free from the Heart, felt much more natural and showed how She-Ra heals the planet rather than destroys it.

One of the most popular questions during the panel revolved around whether Catra and Adora were each other’s first kisses. Noelle responded by telling a headcanon that Catra and Scorpia kissed in the Crimson Waste. As you can imagine, this exploded in the chat and fans seem divided between if they believe the kiss did or didn’t happen – even Noelle’s wife, Molly, disagreed with the Showrunner’s headcanon. Noelle went on to say that she thinks Adora’s first kiss was Catra and that she had kissed no one else previously.

Many fans tuned in to the panel in hopes to hear some news about any possible future She-Ra may have. While there was no definitive answer by Noelle, it was clear that a She-Ra movie (or any future projects pertaining to She-Ra) is not completely off the table with Noelle stating “the future is bright.” All those in Crew-Ra seem excited at the prospect of possibly returning to Etheria in the future. If interest remains high then there’s a chance that a movie could be a very real possibility. In the meantime, fans should keep being vocal and support other projects to show their interest in LGBTQ+ media.
